Ann Dunn lives in Asheville, North Carolina. She is a full time lecturer, teaching courses in The Medieval and Renaissance World and Arts and Religion at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where she was awarded Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award in Humanities. Dunn also serves as Artistic Director of The Asheville Ballet and owns its official studio, The Asheville Academy of Ballet and Contemporary Dance. In addition to Bachelors, Masters and PhD concentrations on Shakespearian Studies and The Literature of the Italian Renaissance, Dunn has won scholarships to writing retreats like Breadloaf and Weymouth. Her dance pedigree includes The School of American Ballet, principle ballerina with The Hartford Ballet, principal ballerina with The American Ballet, choreographer of Menotti’s official tour of Amahl and the Night Visitors, choreographer of Turandot for New York City Opera at Lincoln Center, winner of North Carolina Artist of the Year award, and dancer and choreographer for her own company since 1972. Dunn’s academic research has been presented at international conferences, and published in international journals. Her poetry has been anthologized and published widely in such journals as Carolina Quarterly and Hiram Poetry Review. Dunn has five children and ten grandchildren. Her third volume of poetry will appear this Spring.
